Nats' Nuggets 5.31.09

Nats' Nuggets:
  • I have a feeling that Randy St. Claire will go before Manny Acta goes. But if Acta is fired I am sure Jim Riggleman will take over for the remainder of the year. I call it the Riggleman hunch. He has managed before in the Majors.
  • I believe that Ronnie Belliard might get some time at 2nd base with Anderson Hernandez's poor play this weekend in Philly.

Young Returned

Terrell Young was return to the Nationals from the Reds. He was their Rule 5 draft pick from the Reds this year. He was return to the Reds because he did not make the Nats' 40 man roster. The Reds reported an arm injury so he was returned back to the Nats. Young returns to the 40 man roster of the Nats and back on the 15 day DL. He will have surgery by Dr. James Andrews.

Nats lose to the Phillies, 4--2

The Phillies completed their sweep of the Nats this weekend by beating the Nats, 4-2. Starter John Lannan gave a decent effort by pitching 5 innings and giving up 3 runs. Joe Beimel gave up the only run from the bullpen. The other relievers of Jason Bergmann and Joel Hanrahan held the Phillies scoreless.

The Nats' offense only manage two runs and five hits off the Phillies. Both of the runs came from solo homers by Josh Willingham. It was his 8th and 9th homers of the year.

Nats come up short again against the Phillies, 9-6

Ryan Howard hit two blasts with 5 RBI and the Phillies handed Shairon Martis his first lost of the year by a score of 9-6. Martis, Nats' starter, only lasted 4 innings and gave up 7 runs. Reliever Mike MacDougal gave up two unearn runs aided by Anderson Hernandez error. The other reliever of Jason Bergmann, Ron Villone, , Juilian Tavarez, Kip Wells and Jesus Colome did not give up any run in their relief work.

The offense had it going again, but 11 hits and 6 runs were not enough against the Phillies. Hernandez, Nick Johnson and Alberto Gonzalez each got two hits apiece. Ronnie Belliard had a pinch hit homer in his only at bat.

Give the Radio Guys a Chance!

Hello All Nats' Fan...

You have to give our radio team a listen. I think that Charlie Slowes and Dave Jageler are one of the best radio teams in the MLB. They are very informative and hilarious at times. The call of Cristen Guzman's walk was priceless with the Nathan's hot dog man getting in the way on the 3-2 pitch!

Tina Turner has a song for you guys: Simply the Best!

Nats' Notes 5.28.09

  • The Nats will purchase Mike MacDougal's contact to fill the final spot of the 25 man roster. The spot vacated by Daniel Cabrera.

  • Daniel Cabrera is designed for assignment. He also said he will be a free agent after he clears waiver. He knows no one will pick up his two million contract!
  • Luke Montz will take Josh Bard place because he (Bard) is going to see his wife who is about to give birth.
  • Minor Leaguer Mike MacDougal will become a free agent within two days if he is not put on the 25 man roster. Mike Rizzo needs to make a decision on MacDougal.

Mets tops Nats, 6-2.

Get it Done by Dunn! Nats beat O's,8-5

The Nats came back twice on the Orioles by Adam Dunn's two homers today. Dunn hit his first homer when the Nats were down 3-2 and took a 4-3 lead in the 6th. He hit a grand slam in the 7th as the Nats were down 5-4 and then took a commanding 8-5 lead.

Starter Sharion Martis had a effective start by giving up 5 runs in 6 plus innings. Ron Villone, Joe Beimel and Joel Hanrahan each pitched an inning to finish off the game for the Nats. Villone got his second victory while Beimel picked up his 7th hold and Hanrahan earn his 5th save.

Nats' Nuggets 5.24.09

Here my thoughts on the past couple of weeks:

  • Ross Detwiler and Craig Stammen performances have given Nats' fans hope for the future to complete our young pitching staff.
  • Justin Maxwell is sooooo much better then Lasting Milledge. Maxwell's catch in the 1st against Adam Jones was AWESOME! I believe Milledge will not see the light of day from the Nationals again.
  • Is Tyler Clippard are next call up to replace Kip Wells?
  • Nick Johnson is playing so well that his market has peak! It might be time to trade him and get the most for this 12-30 team.
  • I could envision a lineup of : SS Guzman, CF Maxwell, 3B Zimmerman, 1B Dunn, RF Dukes, LF Willingham, C Flores, 2B Hernandez.
  • Ron Villone has been our best reliever this season
  • Let's take our lumps this year and have an awesome 2010!

Nats are nipped by the O's again, 2-1

The Nats once again fell to the Orioles ,2-1, due to the lack of offense. I bet no one was expecting the pitching that has been pitched so far in this series. The Nats have managed only a total of three runs in 21 innings!

Starter Ross Detwiler had his A game going. He only gave up one run and one hit in 6 innings. The run that he gave up was due to walking the bases loaded and Willie Harris' mental breakdown of covering second base. Julian Taveraz took the lost in his 2/3 innings of work. Ron Villone gave up the big hit as he gave up a triple to Aubrey Huff in a lefty-lefty match-up in his 1/3 inning of work. Jason Bergmann and Joel Hanrahan pitched a scoreless 8th and 9th.

The offense managed one run on seven hits. Adam Dunn had two hits and Cristen Guzman homer accounted for the Nats' run.

The Nats lost another close game in the late innings and this time the Orioles did the taking by winning the game in the twelfth,4-2.

The Nats got great starting pitching from starter Jordan Zimmerman who pitched 7 innings and giving up only two runs. The bullpen again of Ron Villone, Jason Bergmann and Joe Beimel put up 3 scoreless innings. Kip Well pitched two innings of relief but gave up 2 runs in last inning of work.
The offense was off last night as Ryan Zimmerman's two run homer was the only source of runs for the Nats.

Nats' Notes of the day:
  • Garret Mock gets sent down to the minors so they can bring Craig Stammen up to take Daniel Cabrera spot in the starting rotation. Cabrera will go to the bullpen to get his confidence back.

Pirates nip Nats, 2-1.

The Nats once again lost in the late innings but this time it was only 2-1 to the Pirates. The starting pitching was outstanding last night as John Lannan threw 7 innings and allowed only one run. The most dependable reliever Ron Villone threw an inning of shut out relieve, but Joel Hanrahan threw a wild pitch with bases loaded and allowed the the go ahead run which turned out to be the winning run.

Nats lose in the tenth to the Pirates, 8-5

The Nats fought back from a 5-1 deficit and tied the game in the 9th and even have the winning run in scoring position. The Nats did not take advantage of the situation and allowed the Pirates to scored three runs in the 10th to lose.

Starter Sharion Martis did not have his best outing but still pitched 6 innings and allowed 5 runs. The bullpen was effective for the seventh, eighth and ninth innings with the pitching of Ron Villone and Joe Beimel. Beimel though had a terrible 10th inning and took the lost.

The second game of this home series versus the Pirates have Sharion Martis taking on the Bucs' Jeff Karstens tomorrow at 7:05pm.

Nats' Nuggets 5.18.09

Here are some of my thoughts:
  • I have a feeling when Scott Olsen comes back from his shoulder issue that Daniel Cabrera might be seeing the beginning of the end. I believe the only chance of him staying in the bigs if he becomes a closer and throw his one pitch (fastball), but I must admit he might be too wild to be effective in that role.
  • Is Garrett Mock destined for Syracuse? If so why not give Tyler Clippard an audition as reliever on the big stage!
  • I have a feeling if Ross Detwiler audition on Monday night doesn't go well then Craig Stammen might get his chance.
  • Is it me or is Eljiah Dukes' hamstring are very weak.
  • How bad is the Nats' bullpen when Manny Acta hands back the closer role to Joel Hanrahan who had those terrible times early in the year. Well doesn't it feel like a lifetime ago! WOW!
  • Is Alex Cintron still on the team? LOL

The Nats again blew and late inning lead as the Philles defeated the Nats 8-6. Julian Tavarez who took the lost had a tough outing by not retiring either batter he faced and was charged with two runs. Jesus Colome had a blown save aided by the Hernandez err in judgement while giving up a run in his 1/3 inning of work. Beimel pitched 1 and 2/3 innings of relief giving up no runs.

The Nats were swept by the visiting Phillies. Game 1 the Phillies won 8-5 and game 2 the Phillies won a rain shorten game by a score of 7-5.

Nicknames anyone!

I was thinking about giving some of our Nats some nicknames. Here is some I have come up with.

  • John "Living on the Edge" Lannan
  • Ryan "The Franchise" Zimmerman
  • Nick "Two Spot" Johnson
  • Wil "Go the Other Way" Nieves

I went to a baseball game and a FIGHT broke out!

I went to the game last night and what I witnessed was a first. The game was in the twelfth and a Phillie fan and a Nat fan started yelling at each other. What happened was really ironic! Austin Kearns got hit by a pitch and about the same time these two men start fighting. Fists swinging, punching, pushing and pulling. I am sure the alcohol and their manhood interfered with their better judgement, but the most incredible thing was that Nationals Park security could not be found. I believe some by-stander got security after the fact!

Wow! One thing about Phillie Fans that that they are blue collar and don't take crap! Please, next time Nats Stadium have security around!

Nats' Notes 5.16.09

Yesterday's Notes:
  • Elijah Dukes left the game with a hamstring strain after Ryan Howard's homer.
  • Dmitri Young has a leave of absence due to his mother's illness.

Phillies outlast Nats in twelve, 10-6

The Nats had their chances last night in an extra inning game in a 10-6 lost to the Phillies. The yo-yo game had the Nats down early and coming back to take the lead in the 3rd inning. The Nats giving up the lead in the later innings and a Nats comeback in the 9th. The Nats then giving up 4 runs in the twelve to lose.

Starter John Lannan gave a solid effort in 5 2/3 innings giving up 3 runs. Lannan pitched well enough to win, but the bullpen fell apart again! Garret Mock could not get the hitter he was suppose to get out. Ron Villone got his second hold by getting the one out he was suppose to get. Jesus Colome making his first apperance did not get the man he was suppose to get out. (Do we see a pattern?) Joe Beimel, Nats' most consistent reliever, had his second bad outing giving up a 3 run homer to Phillies' Ryan Howard in his 2/3 inning of relief and Beimel also recorded his second blown save. Julian Tavarez and Joel Hanrahan pitched well by not giving up any runs in their 3.1 innings of work. Kip Wells had a good 11th inning, but a terrible 12th inning by giving up four runs and he took the lost.

The Nats' offense was lead by Ryan Zimmerman's three hits and Wil Nieves added two hits. Willie Harris who came in for the injured Elijah Dukes got a big two out double in the 9th inning which scored two runs and forcing extra innings.

Jordan Zimmermann was not sharp by pitching six innings and giving up 6 runs. Relievers Julian Taravez pitched one inning with out giving up a run. Nats' Nuggets 5.12.09

I have not had a Nats' Nugget in awhile but here are some thoughts on the state of the Nats.

  • The Nats' hitting is great! The team is batting .277 . The top seven hitter of the Nats is hitting .275 or above coming into tonight's game! Cristen Guzman is hitting .378, Ryan Zimmerman .363, Adam Dunn .318, Jesus Flores .311, Nick Johnson .307, Anderson Hernandez .293. and Elijah Dukes .275.
  • The Nats' ERA is the terrible. It is currently at 5.42!
  • Daniel Cabrera and Logan Kensing should be in Syracuse.
  • Alex Cintron should also join them!
  • Lets hope the Nats' brass make some more changes!

Giants beat Nats, 11-7.

KaBOOM goes the Nats' bullpen in lost to Cardinals, 9-4

The Nats' bullpen fell apart against the Cardinals last night in a 9-4 lost. The Nats had fought back and took a 4-3 lead in the 6th inning, but it went down hill from that point. The Cardinals scored one run in the 7th inning and 5 more in the 9th to win the ball game.

The pitching was the major problem. The Nats' starter Daniel Cabrera had a fair performance in which he threw 4 wild pitches and gave up three runs in his 6 innings of work. The bullpen was a complete failure with Mike Hinckley, Logan Kensing, Kip Wells, Julian Tavarez and Joel Hanrahan pitching ineffectively in their 3 innings of work. Kensing had a blown save and Tavarez took the lost.

The Nats' offense was lead by Ryan Zimmerman's homer and Jesus Flores' two hits. Zimmerman had two RBI and Flores had one. Zimmerman extended his hitting streak to 19 games.
