Nats hold on against the Cubs, 5-4

Nats 5 Cubs 4

The Nats got a 5-0 lead in the first three innings and held off the Cubs by a score of 5-4. The victory was dampened when it was found out that Nyjer Morgan was lost for the year with a broken left hand.



Pitching:

Starter J.D Martin pitched 5 inning while giving up 3 runs. The bullpen of Tyler Clippard, Sean Burnett and Mike MacDougal held the Cubs to 1 runs in four innings. The Key play of the game was made by Catcher Josh Bard and Burnett . The Cubs tried to score on a wild pitch by Burnett, but Bard was able to recover and toss the ball to Burnett who tagged out Cubs’ runner Derek Lee. MacDougal record his 14th save of the year by getting the last five outs of the game.

Batting:

The Nats collected only 5 hits, and still scored 5 runs. Five different Nats got hits in the game. The Nats were led by Ryan Zimmerman and Adam Dunn who each homered in the game!

Record:

The Nats improve to 46-82 and continue to be in last place of the NL East.

Next Game:

The Nats next game is tomorrow in St. Louis against the Cardinals as John Lanna takes on the Cardinals’ John Smoltz at 8:15 pm.
