Nats hold off the Padres, 5-3.

The Nats were able to hold off the Padres in the 9th inning in a 5-3 victory. The Nats had pulled out to a 5-2 led, but the Padres were able to load the bases with no outs in the 9th. Reliever Matt Capps bore down and let only one run in and closed the door on those pesky Padres. The Nats are 25-24 and are tied for 3rd in the NL East.

Pitching:John Lannan picked up his second win of the year as he pitched 7 innings while giving up only 2 runs. Tyler Clifford pitched a scoreless 8th and earning his 11th hold of the year. Capps did allow a a run in the 9th, but gained his 17th save of the year.

Hitting:The Nats scored 5 times on 6 hits. Ian Desmond led the Nats with two hits. Josh Willingham and Desmond both hit homers in the game as they also combined for 5 RBI.
