I am a Washington National fan since they came to town in 2005. Nats9 comes from my favorite number,9, and no current National has the number nine so hence the name of my blog.

"Character is revealed not Built"
Former great UCLA basketball coach had a saying, "Character is revealed not built." I would like to add to that "It is revealed in the most trying times".
I respect Riggs a great deal more then I did before because of the situation with Nyjer Morgan. I saw great character from the Nats' manager. The first reaction was to pull Morgan from the game after his mistake on Adam Jones' inside the park homer. But Riggs thought it through and through. It was not a hasty decision. You cannot be rational when you are emotional. He showed character of a leader and believed in his belief. Morgan's mistake was hideous, but not malicious. Riggs stood by his man and his team stood by him.
We also saw the character of a team yesterday by bonding and supporting Morgan instead of being divided. I believe that will serve the team tenfold in the future.
Thank you Riggs!

Will Bruney turn it around?
The Nats' reliever Brian Bruney is really struggling. He is 1-1 with a 6.23 ERA. He has pitched 13 innings while giving up 15 hits an d 15 walks.
I am sure Riggs is losing faith in Bruney in close games. Bruney was suppose to be a mainstay in the Pen this year, but right now he is bringing back visons of last years' bullpen. Riggs thou have to suck it up because Bruney has no more minor league options.
I wonder if this performance continues it will speed up Drew Storen call up.

The Fish pound the Nats, 9-3.
The Nats had an early 2-0 led but it quickly came apart as the Marlins out scored them 9-1 for the rest of the game. The Marlins' bat were too much for the Nats' pitching in the Marlins, 9-3 victory. Both teams are now 13-12.

John Lannan is showing inconsistency this year. He started off well with two innings with no runs, but fell apart the next 3 innings. He pitched only 5 innings while giving up 6 runs. Miguel Batista gave up one run in one inning of relief. Brian Bruney is struggling very badly. He pitched only 1.2 innings while giving up 3 walks and 2 runs.
