Phillies outlast Nats in twelve, 10-6

The Nats had their chances last night in an extra inning game in a 10-6 lost to the Phillies. The yo-yo game had the Nats down early and coming back to take the lead in the 3rd inning. The Nats giving up the lead in the later innings and a Nats comeback in the 9th. The Nats then giving up 4 runs in the twelve to lose.

Starter John Lannan gave a solid effort in 5 2/3 innings giving up 3 runs. Lannan pitched well enough to win, but the bullpen fell apart again! Garret Mock could not get the hitter he was suppose to get out. Ron Villone got his second hold by getting the one out he was suppose to get. Jesus Colome making his first apperance did not get the man he was suppose to get out. (Do we see a pattern?) Joe Beimel, Nats' most consistent reliever, had his second bad outing giving up a 3 run homer to Phillies' Ryan Howard in his 2/3 inning of relief and Beimel also recorded his second blown save. Julian Tavarez and Joel Hanrahan pitched well by not giving up any runs in their 3.1 innings of work. Kip Wells had a good 11th inning, but a terrible 12th inning by giving up four runs and he took the lost.

The Nats' offense was lead by Ryan Zimmerman's three hits and Wil Nieves added two hits. Willie Harris who came in for the injured Elijah Dukes got a big two out double in the 9th inning which scored two runs and forcing extra innings.

Yesterday' box score is the following:
